Art has yet to face up to homosexuality →
This is an interesting article that discusses both the book Art and Homosexuality and the HIDE/SEEK exhibition.
Though a bit old, a fascinating piece nonetheless at the WaPo on homosexuality and art. Philip Kennicott writes about the relationship the art world has had with homosexuality—not only the topic, but with artsits who had/have same-sex desires. Kennicott makes it a point to note the contradiction of this distance considering the tantamount of work artists with same-sex desires have contributed to art not only within this past century, but long before it. While it may seem that artists who have been known to be queer, or hold same-sex desires are receiving considerable attention for their work, which has been long overdue, events such as the removal of David Wojnarowicz’s A Fire in My Belly at the exhibit Hide/Seek at the National Portrait Gallery should only reveal the hesitance the art world and museums have in embracing the different queer voices that have contributed to the various histories of art.
